Considering the enormous kinetic energy involved with this impact,
if it hit within a "dead-center" area of a shallow oil-field with surface
seepage, I could imagine all traces of the existing deposit were completely
incinerated/obliterated ... it may be our present detection technology is
at fault here.  There also may have been an old tar-pit in that area that
was engulfed at the time?
