As far as I know Knight was the first to use the white bone on black muscle
profile in his 1920's book on living animal art (Asian elephant, camel),
Scheele was the first to use it for dinos and other extinct creatures, although
I
saw Scheele's books as a kid first become explicitly aware of the method in 77
when Bakker showed me his skel of Triceratops which led to my adopting it.
