Re: lung capacity

As I discuss in DA, lung volume is not a reliable indicator of aerobic
capacity because reptiles have very large lungs (they are so inefficient
because
they are so simple) while birds have small lungs (they are super efficient
because of complexity and air sac ventilation). Birds have large chests but the
lungs are tucked up in the top portion. Lung volume is correlated with ribcage
size and aerobic capacity in mammals, long distance runners like dogs have
bigger
chests than shorter range cats for instance.
