The largest nesting colonies are...I think...on 24 islands just off the
coast...and mainland colonies have been declining due, from what I read,
to loss of nesting cover.  Predation from birds is business as usual for
penguins...what they cannot sustain is mammalian preds thrown into the
mix.  The case of the NZ (yellow-eyed?) penguin is instructive...they
cling on only on remote islands in a range that used to primarily
mainland...reason for reduction is ferrets (again, from what I have read).
