It's true. Grrr.

Well... a famous old invertebrate zoologist said in a lecture that to his
mind this is "a compromise to the ignorant Americans". I can't find a better
explanation. :-> Let's hope the PhyloCode, if, er... if species names will
get a form that might make that applicable, will allow corrections. Unlike
the ICZN, it's feasible to talk to the PhyloCode people via their mailing
list; but currently, Article 18.2 of the draft
www.ohiou.edu/phylocode/art18.html says "Spellings that do not follow
Recommendation 17B (for example, incorrect latinization or use of an
inappropriate connecting vowel) and spellings that contain incorrect
transliterations are not to be corrected." This recommendation
www.ohiou.edu/phylocode/art17.html is "New clade names should follow the
rules and recommendations of the preexisting codes with regard to Latin
grammar. However, failure to follow those rules and recommendations does not
nullify the establishment of names under the PhyloCode." Let's complain :-)
