>Many people have cited the JP series as
having misinformed the public about dinosaurs<
It amuses me---having grown up with images of sluggish, swamp dwelling,
tail dragging, cold blooded dinosaurs---that recent movies showing fast,
smart, >feathered< theropods and herds of fully terrestrial
"tails-up" herbivores are getting beat up so badly. I would submit that
the net effect of dinosaur science over the past 35-40 years has resulted in an
>enormous< change in the public's view of dinosaurs. Swamp dwelling
Brontosaurs and erect, lumbering T. rexs are as extinct as their namesakes.
Hollywood is >always< going to sensationalize things and there will
>always< be some people who confuse fiction and fact. Those
realities are pervasive and not limited to dinosaur science. I say again
that my hat is off to the scientists and artists who have brought those changes
to the public's attention, warts and all.
