They are not skulls at all.  They are geological artifacts, probably
concretions (though I have not seen them, so I could be wrong on that).
They are so uninteresting to geologists, that I suspect little has been
published, at least not in refereed journals.

[In general, concretions are only interesting if they *contain* fossils].
