That's curious, for it would mean that extant archosaurs lack that trait. From
what
you say about alligator's "scent marking" not being well understood I presume it
must be quite different from scent sensing in birds. Does anyone in this list
know anything more about this topic? Does any living archossaur show
vomeronasals?
(I suppose there is no way of telling about fossils).
