Hoyle as moron

I certainly agree  with Tom Holtz on the subject of Hoyle vs Archie.  And
let's not forget thateven in his chosen field, astronomy, Hoyle is best
known for the "steady state" theory of the origin of the universe - now
discredited...

BUT:

Hoyle has written some pretty  decent sci-fi (not including the Archie
book!).  "The Black Cloud" is IMHO a terrific story and even the extremely
wierd "October the First is Too Late" is worth a try. 

 He only seems to go wrong when he gets around to facts, I guess....
