Re: Michael Crichton dies

Hi All

I agree about his writing being hard to put down - "The Andromeda Strain" being one of the most compelling reads on Panspermia I've ever read. But the science was fluffy at times.... but that's fiction for you. Most interstellar SF stories wouldn't happen without FTL. His climate change scepticism angered me.

But... I can't stay angry at anyone who inspired "Jurassic Park" and thus so many children (&adults) to take palaeontology seriously. First time I watched JP I was shaking from the thrill for an hour. Dinosaurs! Yeehaa! Plus I'd wager, JP made semi-serious dino documentaries like "Walking With Dinosaurs" possible, and that's no bad thing.

All-in-all we've been blessed by the life of Michael Crichton. RIP

Adam

All that said, Crichton was capable of writing in a style that prevented me
from puttings the few books of his I read (JP, Lost World, Congo) down. I
suppose that counts for something.

I agree. Also for Prey, Timeline, Airframe, Sphere and Revelations (I put down State of Fear and Next). He was a good writer, not a scientist.
