Re: Michael Crichton dies
Let me clarify that my comments about the late Michael Crichton's work
were not intended as a slight at his writing ability at all. Over half
of his books adorn my bookshelfs, and I thoroughly enjoyed every one I
read (some of the last ones I did not get to). He came up with some
novel concepts with which to repackage classic themes, and he was a
story crafter and teller with few peers.
While I disagree that it's inappropriate to criticize someones body of
work after their death, that certainly should not be construed as a
smeer against the person. In the event that any of Crichton's family
or friends ever see the mailing list archives, let me extend my
heartfelt condolences to them. It's never easy to lose someone you
care about, and his stories brought excitement to inumerables lives
over the course of his career.

All that said, Crichton was capable of writing in a style that

from puttings the few books of his I read (JP, Lost World, Congo)
down. IÂ
suppose that counts for something.Â

I agree. Also for Prey, Timeline, Airframe, Sphere and Revelations (I
put down State of Fear and Next). He was a good writer, not a
scientist.Â
