Re: NASA Mars mission funding - better spent on paleo?



I still think developing the technology for establishing permanent, independent colonies on the Moon, Mars, and in the asteroid belt is among the most important projects we could spend money on. Well worth doing. It has the potential for saving us.

Although not stated clearly, what I meant was that it is too costly for the limited benefits relative to that scientific discipline. In other words, can we learn more about Mars from putting probes on Mars or putting people on Mars. Comparing the relative merits Mars exploration, paleontology, and finding the cure for cancer is not what I was getting at.
