Considering where alligators live, wouldn't a 'white' skinned 'gator typically 
turn green with algal growth in a short time?  The nooks and crannies of the 
pebbly skin would seem to be ideal habitat along with the reflective 
non-pigmentation.
This might (if it happened quickly enough) give them enough cover to allow for 
a successful hunt.

Otherwise, I'm afraid those expensive white-gator-skin boots in the window 
would be long gone.
