Re: "Open Access" at Cambridge University Press

The cost of a publication is not just in the electronic media and editing
process but also the printing itself. By making the article freely accessible,
Cabridge prevents itself from making sure readers peruse the entirety of the
issue or volume, policies set mind you before the internet was around. One
should be content that the author's accepted papers are being published without
any final printing and publishing costs to him or herself, and that CUP is
bearing this cost on themselves and whatever fund they use to support it and
wherever that is drawn. Otherwise, CUP might need to find alternate sources of
income, like recouping any loss or making a profit for the publishing house
(which is not a charity business) by selling rights to the reading of an issue
or an article, or the ability to make any issuance of an article free
imperpetuity.
