Woopsie.. I mean to say:

"And if it happened to get really cold, I'm also willing to bet that you still 
had a warm layer aloft, so what fell to the ground wasn't just snow flakes, but 
also snow grains."

Snow grains are snow flakes that pass through a layer of air above freezing and 
partially melt, but then re-enter freezing air and refreeze before contacting 
the ground... Basically frozen drizzle.
