Re: People of color at SVP

> This brings up something that I found a bit disturbing at school. As the
years passed at NCSU, I noticed the number of black or hispanic students
began to drop in all my biology/zoology courses. Upon graduation, one could
count the number of black students (out of the whole group of hunderds in
zoology) on one or two hands.

This reminds me... in Austria currently 58 (IIRC) % of university students
are female, tendency rising, but the higher one gets on the carreer ladder,
the fewer there are; only 7 % of Ordinary University Professors are female.
One reason is something similar to nepotism -- buddies heave each
other up, and there are whole buddy associations which waffle about all
sorts of right ideology (very few of them accept women as members) but have
little other purpose than ensuring the carreers of their members. And
drinking lots of beer.
