deep wing conundrum, help!

To those who adhere to the deep-wing, attached-to-the ankle wing model
in pterosaurs:

Could someone please explain to me how such a pterosaur could walk
through knee deep or deeper waters (assumed through footprint and hands
only traces)? Seems to me, the deep drooping wing would fill up very
quickly and hinder forward progress.
