RE: palaeontologist characterization
Jack Horner was a consultant to the films and in interviews done for the
Special Edition DVD both Spielberg and Crichton noted that Dr. Grant was
loosely based on Jack Horner and like you noted some of Bob Bakkers ideas
were incorporated into the films, but actually more of Bakkers ideas were
incorporated in the original novel.

<<< Hi list
I saw (again) a few days ago the JP trilogy (I'm NOT going to talk
about the
dinos of the film). I was just wondering who might have inspired
Grant's
character. It MUST be based upon one (or several) living
palaeontologists..
Anyone got an idea? >>
A lot of guys "think" they are, but I believe it's basically
Jack
Horner sans beer and butts. DV>
I don't know about the movie(s), but I believe I read an interview
with Crichton somewhere in which he said Grant in the novel was based
mainly on Horner, with some of Bakker's ideas thrown in. I don't know
if that's true or not though, it's been about a decade since I'd read
it. I am certain that Horner was the main influence, however.
