If you need an encyclopedic reference for this kind of things do not take
Benton (a good book, anyway), use Carroll (1988).
The last pycnodontiformes are _Paleobalistum_ (), Upper Cretaceous-Eocene
of Europe and Africa, and _Pycnodus_, Eocene of Europe, Africa and Asia.

I was at Bolca for the meeting of the Italian Palaeontological Society a
week ago and I saw the last, wonderful pycnodont specimen found in the site.
