Monte Bolca? Wow. Embarrassing for Benton who calls them "Triassic to
Cretaceous" in the text and lets their balloon in the "phylogenetic tree"
attenuate towards and stop at the K-T boundary. :-)

When did they die out, BTW?

The latest dating (presented last Friday in a Symposium of the Italian Paleontological Society), on the basis of alveolinids (benthic forams I am not familiar with) is what Italian micropaleontologists call "Cuisiano Medio" or SBZ 11 biozone (Lower Eocene ca. 50 millions years ago).
