Re: For the artists
From: Danvarner@aol.com
I must recommend the 6/02 issue of Natural History magazine. In an
article titled,"A Beautiful Hand", botanist Rob Nicholson discusses >the
South American jungle paintings of Frederic Church (1826-1900). >Church,
who was the next-door neighbor of the Osborns (HF, not Ozzie) >was
America's favorite painter and when his latest gigantic painting >would go
on tour it was greeted by the public much like a new Star >Wars movie is
today. There are some terrific reproductions in the >article, especially a
"sketch" in oils of a tree fern that is a tour->de-force. A magic brush.
His paintigs need big dinosaurs.
If Dan's talking about the same article I was flipping through yesterday
(didn't manage to catch the title of the magazine or the article) while at
the library, I highly recommend checking it out as well. So many of the
paintings featured therein were breathtaking and have a very primeval feel
to them. Big dinosaurs indeed... :)
