"Professional" Three Domain Classification crushed?
Dear All,
For those of you interested in the Tree of Life in general and its
phylogeny and classification, you might find these two papers interesting.
The second paper (by Thomas Cavalier-Smith) will probably finally
crush the "professional" Three Domain classification that has been so
popular for the past decade. Professionals can make huge mistakes, and they
have no corner on the truth. However, they often do have the advantage of a
considerable headstart (which can also mean more funding). In this case, I
think some of the tortoises are finally overtaking the hare, but the Three
Domain mess will undoubtedly take many years to clean up.
