Also it should be kept in mind that the grizzlies feast on the salmon run to
build up fat for their hibernation. The availability of that food source is
quite short (week or so?) and would not really provide much of an overall
food source for other than that specialized use.

Pacific salmon start showing up in early summer, like late May, and keep coming in all summer and into the fall. There are different runs- Reds peak in early summer but stragglers keep coming in during later months, midsummer is when the bulk of the fish come in with the peak of the pink salmon run, and in the late summer and fall it's the silvers and dogs, I think kings are more common later in the year as well. A single area like Kodiak can have all five species, and this massive source of protein must contribute significantly to the growth of the bears.
