It probably was, but Benton et al. asserted its availability as a replacement 
name for Palaeosaurus, since it is a junior objective synonym of Palaeosaurus 
Riley & Stutchbury, 1836. Incidentally, the misspelling Palaesaurus Geoffroy 
Saint-Hilaire, 1833 is equally available (if ever needed) for the original 
Palaeosaurus of Geoffroy Saint-Hilaire, 1833.
