Why couldn't sauropod hatchlings and small juveniles have eaten insects? Perhaps
even scavenging meat from carcasses. Crocs bolt down their food without chewing
as well, and they manage to digest all sorts of non-vegetative material. Adult
sauropods may have been almost completely herbivorous (almost - even elephants
and giraffe chew bones for calcium), but juveniles could have had a more varied
diet.
