Re: Torosaurus on Today
It's great to hear that critter is finally out of the ground and into the
lab! This is a rather unique skull--the Rev. Ken Olson (who also discovered
the type specimen for Bugenasaura, the famous "bite-marked" Triceratops and
many other interesting fossils) found this beauty of a specimen. In all,
it's the *second* Torosaurus Ken has been involved with--he dug up another
skull for the museum just a few years back.
I'll be working on a description of both "new" Torosaurus skulls. . .this
latest find is absolutely gorgeous! The specimen is in a loosely
consolidated sandstone, and the bone has this beautiful caramel-color. It's
enough to make a ceratopsian worker drool. . .(and it's a welcome break from
all of those theropods in the news :-P).
Did anyone happen to get a video recording of the segment on Today?
Andy

Subject: Torosaurus on Today
Anyone watching the Today Show this morning saw Jack Horner on location in
Montana commenting on the airlift (by helicopter) of field-jacket encased
_Torosaurus_ skull, which was heading to the Museum of the Rockies for
preparation. He said that it would be on display in a couple of months, so
that sounds like SVP time.
