Re: New Tyrannosaur Find May Have Skin Impressions

Sounds like a really cool find. . .however, nothing I can gather from
Sereno's quotes indicate that skin has actually been found yet. Does the
article say anything to confirm or deny the presence of skin?

Is this the infamous BLM T. rex specimen that's been sitting there for years
and years? For many years I've heard anecdotal accounts (and seen pictures)
concerning a juvenile T. rex on BLM land in the Lance of Wyoming.

Subject: New Tyrannosaur Find May Have Skin Impressions

This is from a news item that appeared today in local paper. Been looking
for it on the net but haven't found it yet, so I'll summarize.

The article refers to a find by Paul Sereno in the Lance Creek formation.
It has comments made by Paul Sereno in what it refers to as being made on
"Sunday", so I guess the article is not entirely current.

The find is located on BLM land near the corners of South Dakota and
Nebraska and is "embedded in four boulders and possibly a fith as well".

"Sereno believes the partial skeleton is either a young Tyrannosaurus rex
or an adult of a smaller tyrannosaur species which to date is known only
through teeth from the area."

"But it was buried in such a way that we think the surface of the skin may
be preserved for the first time in a large predator." (Sereno said)

There's a bit more but most of it speculation on skin coverings.
