     My friend and truly amazing artist, Donna Braginetz asks me this 
question to which I have no answer. Can anyone help?:
     "Did you know there is a book out now (I don't remember title or author 
- I
saw it in a publishing catalog/advertisement) that lists a common name for
every species possible?"
       Ornithologists here in the States monkey around with common names all 
the time. I don't know why and it's very irritating. For instance, the 
"Whistling" Swan is now officially the "Tundra" Swan, the old "Baltimore" 
Oriole is now the "Northern" Oriole. The Sparrow Hawk was changed to Kestrel, 
but the European Kestrel is a very different bird. I made up my own rules and 
call it the Sparrow Falcon. My wife just shakes her head. Does this happen 
elsewhere (the common name changing, not head shaking)? DV
