Apparently, because I've never read of anyone who proposed that turtles are
closer to mammals. This would make Reptilia, probably Eureptilia (not named
by the same people) and Amniota heterodefinitional synonyms.
The term "reptile-like synapsids" has been proposed for nonmammalian
synapsids. It has got very little attention AFAIK.
