DEAD THINGS IN LAVA
WRT body moulds and such preserved in lava, I definitely remember a
kid's book about australopithecines where the family that are the main
focus of the story discover the body cast of a deinothere. In the story,
the animal had been killed during the flow, and its body and skeleton
carbonised, leaving a perfect mould in the cooled lava. OK, this might
be fiction, but at the time I thought that it might have been based on a
real discovery. If there *is* such a specimen, the controversy over the
morphology of the deinothere trunk could be resolved...
Hooray for _Bambiraptor_... and will Disney sue for infringement of
copyright?
