I WANNA BE A PART OF B.A.
Buenos Aires: Big Apple
Sorry, I couldn't resist... Yes, to the point. I am attempting to plan a
possible trip to Buenos Aires next austral summer. I have some questions for
you dino-folks that have perhaps taken dino-trips to Buenos Aires.
MUSEO ARGENTINO DE CIENCIAS NATURALES
Every single travel book I have gotten my hands on about Argentina and/or
Buenos Aires fails to mention this place even though I assume it is one of the
premier paleo-institutions on Earth. This confuses me because I could not
imagine a guidebook for Washington DC that failed to mention the
Smithsonian... I am unable to locate Avenida Angel Gallardo (where the
museum's at) on any city map of Buenos Aires.. does anyone know in what part
of the city it is?
How extensive is the museum? How extensive are the collections and who do I
have to go through to get at the collections? Jose Bonaparte? Fernando
Novas? What is kept there and what is kept at the regional museums in say La
Rioja or Neuquen?
LA PLATA AND MONTEVIDEO
Are the Natural History museums in these two nearby cities worth seeing for
dino-related stuff? Keep in mind it is a nine hour bus ride to Montevideo, so
I am talking about REALLY worth seeing.
DIET RELATED CONCERNS
As I am going to have to eat in Argentina and I am not finding this
information very readily.... What is the drinking age in Argentina? If it is
above 20, how strictly is it enforced? How common are vegetarian restaurants
in Buenos Aires?
UNRELATED STUFF
Ok, I found a new ref, just so that you all don't get bored with my Argentino
ramblings:
Sues, H-D, and Reisz, R R. 1998. Origins and early evolution of herbivory in
tetrapods. Trends in Ecology and Evolution 13(4):141-145.
Not directly related to dinos, but worth reading. Also, why the heck is the
newest JVP so darn late (expected March 12th)? Does anyone know?
Thanks again, and please reply to my Argentino related questions off-list.
