Triceratops Frills
In a message dated 96-01-26 15:08:23 EST, you write:
<< Again, how can this work for animals like _Triceratops_, who don't have
any
fenestrae? The frill is solid enough to make it impossible for a muscle to
get
to the frill by going *through* the skull. It seems to me that the only way
for
the muscle to go is outside the skull. Whether this is unique to Trike, or
common for the group, is open to debate. >>
I think you are speaking about the fact that Triceratops (NOT trikes
rrrrrr...) is 'solid-frilled' while most other ceratopians with the exception
of Avaceratops, have big windows in their frills. This is not where the jaw
muscles go through to get to the jaw. There is another set of holes (real
technical, I know) in the top of the skull behind the brow horns that goes
down to attatch to the jaws.
