Greetings one and all. I've been reading the mail here for some time, but
never had anything constructive to add. After reading this some of you may
think I still don't - I'll take the risk.

I've noticed that there is a wide range of people that participate in this
dialogue. For those of you that don't see too much general geologic
literature, let me point out an upcomming event. The AAPG (American
Association of Petroleum Geologists) is having it's national convention in
San Diego this comming May. During the meeting there will be a special
lecture by David D. Gillette of the Utah Geological Survey titled
"Seismosaurus: The Earthshaker."

AAPG conferences tend to be fairly pricey and have hjundreds of technical
presentations that won't interest many of you. On the other hand,
particularly for those of you in southern California, there are special
one-day registrations. There is also a "Science Teachers' Day Convention
Program" for K-12 teachers. If I'm not mistaken there are scholarships
available for those attending.

There is also a significant discount and special programs offered to college
students who want to attend.
