Three points:
1. two years is *plenty* of time to do something about it, if we have
a basic space technology already in place. Of course this *is* an
argument for maintaining a basic space technology - something Congress
is already aware of.
2. The effects would be no worse than the K-T impact, if even as bad.
(There is reason to suppose that the effects of the K-T impact were
amplified by other factors).
3. There are already large asteroids crossing the Earth's orbit, and
thus a large impact is likely well before the arrival of DM+61366.
