AW: Egyptian National Museum
Al Jazeera just reported that protesters and army jave joined to prevent
looting of the museum.
(I guess with all the dispute about return of artifacts collected by the
British, the museum is a source of national pride to enough people down there
to make looting not a first priority for many. Not like in Baghdad, where the
museum basically stood around as a backdrop whenever Saddam wanted to play
Hammurabi...)
But the fire is still a problem not at present threateneing the museum but this
will change if it's not contained soon; fire engines were used by the police to
run over protesters and when the revolt prevailed the fire engines got trashed;
now the Army seems to try and bring their own fire engines up but these are
heavy equipment and can't travel fast in all this commotion.
