Cope, in one of his lesser known works entitled "On the relationship of 
the sexes to government" wrote "Negro suffrage was one disaster and 
female suffrage would be an even greater one."  Marsh may have been a 
jerk as a person, but seemed to avoid such philosophical musing, as 
least in his published writing.
