There were others long before Kurochkin. Vogt (1879) believed dinosaurs were
possible ratite ancestors, while Archaeopteryx was a carinate ancestor. Mivart
(1881) and Wiedersheim (1886) derived ratites from dinosaurs and carinates from
pterosaurs.
