The tooth implantation of *M.* is difficult to tell from the figures (and not mentioned in the text), but the figures are most easily compatible with the plesiomorphy, that is, subthecodont tooth implantation -- tooth roots the shape of a sphere segment fit into pits on the bone that have the same shape. Thecodonty means the alveoli have vertical walls over part of their depth; often it's defined as "root longer than crown" (and of course separate alveoli, unlike the aulacodont condition).
