Is it the same in Phalacrocoraciiformes? (*Limnofregata azygosternon* GMNH PV
167 seems to suggest so)? If so, it is likely though not certain to have
evolved independently from a largely vestigial and back-turned hallux.
The two modern "totipalmate" lineages are not too close and are separated by a
whole bunch of lineages which have no hallux of major importance and either
have 3-toe full webs or insignificant webs.
