Re: NASA Mars mission funding - better spent on paleo?

(Whew. More than that is spent in a single day? I have to do something about my memory. I was over an order of magnitude off.)

Where could this money have been MUCH more usefully
spent on paleontology - specifically, Mesozoic-era research?

Let me twist this into a probably better question: Would all of it together cost 400 millones de dolaritos? Worldwide?

How much does a full-blown Sereno team expedition from Chicago to the place called "where the camels become afraid" in the desert called "nothing" in Niger cost, from planning to publication, including shipping, handling, preparation, and all that jazz? One million even?

When current politics get drug into a thread about dinos,
something's gone 'orribly, 'orribly wrong!

This is our _point_, in case you didn't notice. Something _has_ gone more wrong <speech style="jedi">than you can possibly imagine.</speech>
