As a member of "the public who pays attention to such things,"  I am not 
turned off by reclassifying Archaeopteryx as a bird or non-bird.  I kind 
of like it, because it shows that Science is still progressing and full 
of new ideas;  it shows Archaeopteryx is a 'transitional' species that 
is supposed to be so rare (in certain arguments);  it shows by example 
how evolution research is conducted. 

I do however think Pluto should be re-classified as it always was: as a 
cartoon character.
