During their feeding in the rich green munchie world of the Mesozoic
(where applicable), undoubtably the various herbivores - especially the
huge ones - would have had to eat the occassional insect/larvae/eggs, and
probably the occassional couldn't-get-out-of-the-way-fast-enough small
salamander or lizard.
Certainly.
How important was this small bit of animal matter in their diet?
We have no idea.
Were the trace elements beneficial?
Perhaps.
These are not the kind of question that research on fossils can easily
answer...
