Italian wall lizards introduced to a tiny island off the coast of Croatia are evolving in ways that would normally take millions of years to play out, new research shows.
A study on Anole lizards deliberately introduced to various islands found
much the same thing. It seems that phenotypic plasticity can take up the
slack in the short term, resulting in physical changes without the need for
any genetic change. The same may be the case in this instance.
