Scott, would you elaborate a bit on the two quoted points, please? I note
in passing that pterosaurs don't have "a pulley-like supracoracoideus
needed to prevent dislocation of the humerus during downstrokes".
And what do bats do...? Do they have any homo- or analogue of the
supracoracoideus? (For the upstroke they use the good old deltoid, the
muscle we use for the same movement.)
