They did have an exit strategy, though.

(OK. I'll stop contributing to this thread. Just couldn't resist. -- The Hittites basically entered history by suddenly making a rather inexplicable 1000 km trip to Babylon, sacking it, and then going home, never to return IIRC.)

But neither did it belong to any Greek state, nor was there such a thing as
Greece in a political sense.

Alexander the Great might've give you an argument on that.
