Majungatholus comes to Long Island
Today, after months of planning, a Majungatholus cast skeleton went on
display in the administration building on the campus of Stony Brook
University (Long Island, New York). The cast is a composite, based on a
series of specimens uncovered by the Mahajanga Basin Project over the past
10 years or so. The mount was constructed by Tyler Pinegar and his company
(hope I spelled his name right), and it looks phenomenal! A lot of folks
worked hard to make this happen (Dave Krause, especially) - if you are on or
around Long Island, it's worth the trek out to see it!
As most all of us who have worked on Majungatholus in some capacity or
another can testify, there's nothing like seeing the beast in person. Two
immediate impressions: 1) it looks smaller in person than I would have
expected; and 2) it's definitely the dachshund of the dinosaur world. Stubby
legs all around.
