Well, in all honesty, there wasn't much of a consistent definition of a
"planet" before then, either. It's one of those thigns, like pornography, where
you'll "know" it if you see it. But quanitifying the features of known planets
neccessitated defining the term, since it would include some non-planets, and
exclude some known ones. People are bound to be disturbed by just about any
definition.
