bittersweet book announcement

I'm very happy to announce publication of the latest book in Indiana
University Press' paleontology series, _Fossil Salamanders of North
America_, by J. Alan Holman.

However, my pleasure is muted by sadness over the fact that, as I
imagine most of you already know, Al died this last weekend.  He and I
were working on fossil snakes from my Pipe Creek Sinkhole site, and his
death is a terrible personal and professional blow.

I am pleased to say, though, that Al got to see a copy of his new book
before he died.  He was quite happy, and Scott Hartman will be pleased
to learn that Al was delighted with the painting on the dust jacket.
