<Have feathers, shed or otherwise, been found by themselves?>
Plant fronds described as *Proornis* were originally described as feathers,
while the original specimen from Solnhofen that started the people buzzing was
describe by von Meyer and led to his invention of the name *Archeopteryx*, even
though his specimen when used to describe the species was the Berlin Specimen.
Isolated feathers have also been found in Cenozoic amber.
