RE: Erythrosuchids



Gower and Sennikov (2000) find the supposed differences between the species to be invalid (premaxillary shape; posteroventral expansion of maxillary ramus; antorbital fossa; posterior jugal process length; pineal foramen; intercentra; triple-headed ribs), except for the possible closer association of teeth and aveolar bone in Vjushkovia. They recommend synonymizing the species.
I have no personal opinion, as this is well outside my range of expertise.

Thanks to those who responded to my queries on Postosuchus.
While we're on the subject of non-dinosaurian archosaurs, are the
erythrosuchids Garjainia and Vjushkovia considered synonymous, with the former
having priority? In some resources, I see Vjushkovia triplocostata, the type
species, classified under Garjainia.
